Anaesthesiology Department is ambitious, developing, multipotential clinic of the Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno klinikos. It is recognised as European Center of Excellence in the field of Anaesthesiology and Intensive care recognised by European Society of Anaesthesiology.
Clinical anaesthesiology activities cover all surgery fields including general, pediatric, cardiothoracic, obstetric, neurosurgery, ENT, orthopaedic-traumatology, urology anaesthesia. One of the outstanding clinical activities and features is anaesthesia for transplantology.
All types of anaesthesias, techniques are performed and monitoring methods are used in Anaesthesiology department. Recently ultrasound guided techniques and bronchoscopy in anaesthesiology were introduced. Main endpoint and outcome of this activity are the patient safety based on Helsinki declaration.

The Anaesthesiology department is a training base at LUHS, providing all the study cycles: continuous, postgraduate residency studies, 3rd cycle (doctoral) studies and refresher courses of professional medical qualification.
During the studies students are introduced to the concept of general anaesthesia, the main modern methods of anaesthesia, pain physiology and pathophysiology as well as pain-relieving drugs in clinical pharmacology. Students seeking for deeper practical and scientific knowledge of anaesthesiology can attend the Student Society of Anesthesiology.
Approximately from 50 to 54 doctors-residents of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care study in the Department. In the Department of Anaesthesiology residents become familiar with basic common and regional anaesthesia techniques and learn how to safely anesthetise patients before they undergo surgery because of various surgical pathologies
Doctors and doctoral students of the Department are actively involved in research. They write articles for scientific journals, give presentations in various international conferences and prepare medical qualification courses.

Main achievement international accreditation of our center as a center of excellence. As it was mentioned previously, the Department of Anaesthesiology is recognised European Center of Excellence in the field of Anaesthesiology and Intensive care recognised by European Society of Anaesthesiology. Anaesthesiology Department received it‘s accreditation in the year of 2014.

Lithuanian Regional Center of Committee for European Education in Anaesthesiology is established in the Department of Anaesthesiology. It organises all programmes approved by the European Society of Anaesthesiology and contributes to the organisation of the Baltic States Congress.
